Fire Protection Classification

Through the continual support of our community, the Wellington Fire Protection District (WFPD) is proud to announce the improvement of our Public Protection Classification (PPC). The Insurance Services Office, in partnership with Wellington Fire, the Town of Wellington and Fort Collins 911, determined the new rating.

Wellington Fire Public Protection Classification rating effective October 1, 2023:

PPC Rating of 3: This rating applies to all Wellington residents and businesses within five road miles of a WFPD fire station AND have access to a municipal water source. This classification has improved from a 3/10.

PPC Rating of 4: This rating applies to all Wellington residents and business owners within five road miles of a WFPD fire station BUT have no municipal water source. This classification has improved from a 5.

PPC Rating of 10: This rating applies to all Wellington residents and business owners outside five road miles of a WFPD fire station. This classification has not changed.

What this could mean for you:
Most insurance companies in the U.S. use the ISO’s Public Protection Classification when determining the pricing of property insurance. With this new classification, you may see a reduction in your home or business insurance premium. We encourage you to contact your insurance provider to see if the WFPD’s new classification will affect your policy.

How is the ISO-PPC rating determined?
The Insurance Services Office Public Protection Classification is based on a grading scale from 1 to 10. A 1 classification represents superior property fire protection, and a 10 classification indicates that the area’s fire protection does not meet ISO’s minimum criteria.
